Grade 2

Grade 2 students come to school with a lot of energy and they are excited to share things of which they are passionate.
Teachers make learning fun by incorporating time to share student projects, games that reinforce concepts from lessons taught, music, and many kinesthetic activities.

A large focus of 2nd grade is spent on memorizing addition and subtraction facts because in 3rd grade they focus on multiplication and division.  In reading, students move about the room to different stations that focus on spelling, writing, vocabulary, and grammar.  During that time, individual students are pulled to come read with the teachers and work on reading strategies to gain fluency.  In science, students explore the world of plant and animal life cycles, energy and motion, rocks and fossils, and germs.  A large part of social studies units focuses on our sense of community and the world.
